Hey, like transmitting, lets all end our messages with our call sign?

Well, I was looking at some really, really nice and really, really expensive radios. They do stuff I have absolutely NO idea what they are talking about. But it is keen, techy, and “one-upsmanship”. I thought. This is like buying a Lamborghini for a 6 year old. So I decided two things. I bought a nice cheap starter handheld off eBay for $50. just…[Read more]

    • Repeaters are the hardest part, you transmit in on one freq, and it rebroadcasts onanother. There are “common” offsets (the difference between receive and transmit freq) and most require a subaudible tone to open the channel, also some standard ones.

I also picked up some baofeng radios, I’m not familiar with the one you got, but from everything…[Read more]

  • Doing some noodling on the eternal “what’s next” disco fix list. (02 Disco 140k) Just had the oil pump, timing chain, water pump replacement done along with new plugs and wires at Solihull. They also installed TF medium duty springs and shocks for me….great guys…recommend them highly.
At any rate, according to the land rover forums I’m living…[Read more]

    • I just replaced my front driveshaft and it got rid of a vibration at highway speeds, and gave me peace of mind. I recommend it for sure. You can get the stock one refurbished, which would add zerk fittings to allow it to be greased, but I liked the idea of going with a stronger shaft if I was going to change it out anyway (albeit for a but more…[Read more]

    • Mike,

I have personally had to repair a D2 (not mine, but a customer’s) after the front propshaft let loose. It wasn’t pretty. Took out the whole fuel line and that was a real chore to replace. Definitely want to at least get the shaft inspected. GBR, BP Utah and Tom Woods all have the similar shaft for sale. It will run you about $380ish +…[Read more]

      • Well, clearly I have a new front drive shaft in my future. I’ve researched the GBR, BP Utah, Tom Woods and also some on Ebay, which are the cheapest by $100 or so. I’m sure I’ll end up buying the more expensive shaft, but it does make me wonder: are the GBR, BP Utah or Tom Woods built more for the off road user than a normal driver? I”m somewhere…[Read more]

        • The big difference of any of them over stock is that they are serviceable, in that they have the ability to be re-greased. The proximity to the exhaust creates a lot of heat that causes the grease to breakdown quicker. Stock shafts and u-joints do not have the zerk fittings to allow them to be re-greased, so eventually they dry up and start to…[Read more]

        • Also, the nut size is 3/8in fine thread, in case you want to buy the new nuts before replacing the shaft. I got mine at O’reilly auto, they are not nylock but I would recommend them if you can find them.

  • How about restoring the winning truck from Trek 1996 also used for camel trophy 1997 team USA selections

Hmm, so I just bought ANOTHER new Land Rover. Another Series 1. 86″.
So that makes 3 Series 1s, the Defender 110, and the Ford.
    Maybe I have a problem…

  • @Wild_Kingdom Did you see an event post called Great Divide Christmas tree run? I created it Sunday afternoon.

  • @Swabby57 Rich, a few of us are getting together tomorrow, Saturday 11/29, to run part of the WABDR. Looking at going up Nahahum Canyon, crossing the ridge, maybe a side-trip to Sugarloaf if we can get there, and then down to Ardenvoir. Going to have several good rigs, winches, etc… Mixed group, my son and his friends, and a few of us “over 50″…[Read more]

Brand new to Land Rovers, but not to 4wheeling.

I recently acquired a 98 Disco with a manual transmission, and I am looking forward to joining you guys on the trail soon.
