    Hi all,

The annual trip over North Cascades and then from Winthrop up into the Okanogan highlands is fast approaching.  Below are some routes I’ve mapped out in order of preference – given the time of year.  This is mostly a site seeing trip, but there are always reasons to be prepared.  Every year we run into 6 to 15″ of snow above 6,000 ft.   The “north” routes below have points above 6,800 ft, so that will likely be a consideration for route choice when we meet up in Winthrop.

    See the calendar event here.

    When/where:  Saturday 11/4/2017   Marblemount Chevron (48.530194, -121.433490)  8am

    Winthrop Texaco (48.467343, -120.174731            10am

Campfires will be a go by early November, and the area has a huge amount of dead fall from fires over the years.   I don’t have a chainsaw, so bringing one along will expedite the warming process )

When the map opens, select “T4” from the upper right.  This enables a drill down that takes you to the old USFS topos.  If you’d like the KMZ file for your GPS – or to convert for your GPS, let me know.

(if you get a message saying the website isn’t available, try again – there is an intermittent issue that comes up from time to time)

The trip is full at this time – but let me know if you are interested.  I’ll get you in if someone cancels.

    Thanks!

    Hi Bryan,

I am going to have to miss this event. I have just learnt we have to be in Seattle for my son’s lacrosse tournament. So sorry I will have to miss this one. I was all prepared for the drive from BC to Winthrop as I hear the Northern Cascades Hwy is beautiful during the winter. Hope to see you soon at another event.

    Hi all,

For those already registered for the Winthrop trip 11/4 and 11/5, let me know a couple of things:

    – will you be meeting on the Marblemount or the Winthrop side

    – do you have CB, 2M, both or none

    Thanks -.b

I have CB and hand held radio, It will be my first time using them, so might take a couple minutes to test them, but did do the radio check on the CB and someone replied

Thanks for the info so far everyone.  We have enough folks on the trip with multiple radios that we’ll be able to  repeat info out to everyone as we travel.
