This ought to be a pretty good trip. I'll be making a route recon before the trip, and will update. Remember your hiking boots!
Rich, you should be able to do some great things with your HAM radio up there on the Butte, not so much from our proposed campsite which is down in a hollow. "Holler" for any southerners. ;)
Hiking boots, canteens or water bottles, some snacks, a day-pack. And a camera! In this area I've seen black bear, coyotes, mule deer and bighorn sheep. Haul the telephoto lens along for wildlife. At this point there are no fire restrictions, but it's a pretty dry area. I may bring my propane campfire, or maybe wood. We will see what it looks like re fire conditions as the trip gets closer.
Right now we're full up. Based on experience, that may change.

Compared to my last NWOL trip to Douglas Creek... This SHOULD be a low-key, mellow trip mostly in 2wd.

2 for 2 on tracking you down in the wilderness
Glad you could make it. Impressive that you could track us down. Nice that you could enjoy some of the road blockages along the way too :-)
Fun meeting up with you guys!
Beehive Road between Yakima and E-burg is probably still closed. This is from May 27 2017.
Yep, should be just about an hour from either of them. From either of them you would end up on Van Creek (at the top of Eagle Creek off of Chumstick Hwy), then you go up to and over French Corral and then down into Mad River/Ardenvoir. The first one the best route would be up Derby Canyon, the second, up Clark Canyon (Chumstick Hwy). A lot more interesting than going up 97A and Entiat
John, thanks for those suggestions! Would you say these are both within an hour or so from Ardenvoir?
and here's another one..https://www.google.com/maps/place/47%C2%B041'01.5%22N+120%C2%B034'20.7%22W/@47.6828442,-120.5682145,1702m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m15!1m8!3m7!1s0x0:0x0!2zNDfCsDM3JzE2LjYiTiAxMjDCsDI5JzAwLjgiVw!3b1!7e2!8m2!3d47.6212769!4d-120.4835519!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d47.6837455!4d-120.5724084!5m1!1e4
The spur doesn't show up the map view but you can see it on the satellite view. We'll be passing by this one when we head to Ardenvoir on Sat AM
We'll miss you guys, catch you next time.
Ole, if you're looking for something a little more rustic with a great view, try

At this point I'm aware of three who have cancelled including me, Amy and Rich.
Guy, I'm sorry that you are not able to participate and I look forward to seeing you next time.
For the rest of the group, Guy shared the route with some of us off line, I plan to go ahead with the trip. Only caveat, this will be my first time through. I'll bring a map with the route & options marked up and I look forward to exploring with the rest of you.
I'll be camping near Ardenvoir on Friday night. I will be looking for ways to get there over dirt, maybe from Cashmere, maybe from Chumstick depending on where I can get through. Looking at Google Maps I plan to camp near the intersection of 5700 & 5800, about 1.7 miles northwest on 119A from Ardenvoir. If that doesn't work out, I might head up 5700 another ~2 miles to the Pine Flats campground.
I'd love to have some of you join me going there and/or camping on Friday!
I'll be on CB ch22 & ham 146.46 and probably also the Burch Mountain repeater until I turn in for the night. My cell number is on my profile if you'd like to connect off line. Not convinced that I'll have any cell connectivity when I get to my campsite however.
???
Sadly, I have to cancel. I cannot participate in this event.
Guy, any recon info? Were you able to get out have a look-see?
So, looks like the possibility for some nice, dark, star-y nights. Moon will set around 5:30 on Saturday. Doesn't look now like many clouds .Don't know how much light pollution from Chelan, but can't be too too bad.
Maybe no PM, but my mobile is on my profile...
Are Sugarloaf and Chumstick summits at about the same elevation? If so, looks like the best option is to leave early, get stuck, get unstuck, and go back the way I came!
Sure looks nice from your picture
Here's what Sugarloaf looked like yesterday, still a bit of snow up high..
Ya, no PM avail on the site yet.
From my front window, it appears that there is still quite a bit of snow on the north side of Chumstick Mountain. Not sure it's passable yet.
I'll do a bit of a route-recon later this week and will have a better feel for what's open & avail. Ole, I believe the WABDR route from Ellensburg to Wenatchee is still closed. I'd be up for camping Friday night if there's a decent campsite avail. I think there will be.
Guy
We'll be heading over on Friday, but going to the house (Chumstick) to set up and load the camper. It's all dirt from there to Ardenvoir. Little bit over an hour. Could use it as rally point for Friday PM/Saturday AM and convoy over.
I'd PM you some info but it appears there's no way PM set-up on this new site?
Looking so forward to this!
I'm planning to come up Friday and camp somewhere close to Ardenvoir on Friday night. Any recommendations for a campsite and a way to get there? Is it worth trying the WABDR section from Cashmere via Chumstick up towards Ardenvoir?
If dirt is not an option for getting to Ardenvoir, is the WABDR section from Ellensburg up towards Cashmere open? Or maybe pull off around Beehive towards Wenatchee?
Most important, anyone care to join me on Friday?
Well, OK. I'll bring my camera and lenses, but they are proven to scare wildlife away, I've even been able to drive whales away with it :-)
