Hey Everyone,
The registration for this event keeps closing. Technical glitch of some kind.
If you’re hoping to go, or even still on the fence, speak up here so I can get an idea of what to plan for.
Also, I’m new to trip leading. Ask away if you have any questions.
Thanks! Hope to see you around the campfire.
I'm sorry but I need to bail out for this one. I'm actually going to start prepping my truck for sale. @Aaron Houk I know you're going to have a great time!
Plan B is posted as an event called Kittitas Area Exploring
Rally 1 is the Cle Elum Safeway @ 4:00 pm on Friday the 3rd
Rally 2 is @ our intended campsite - 47.11434, -120.23603
Just back from a week in the Owyhee Canyonlands… stunning! needed some sun and warmth… still planning on joining this trip if it isn’t too wet / cold. Keep me posted.
I will forward the gpx files to Aaron. I might even be able to make this trip as well.
Dan
I am still interested as well. I have been to Colockum and maybe @Dan Cronin could share the coordinates for Shangri-La. The terrain in the Colockum is much different than GPNF - there are more pointy rocks, more sun, and usually dust. Should be great!
I'm still interested.
Hey Everyone
I went on a scouting run last weekend. The roads are impassable and loaded with that wet-concrete-style snow and tons of downed trees.
With the lack of warm weather this trip is doomed….
So, I‘m working on plan B.
Details will come out by the 20th
I’ve never been to the Colockum area, so I’m going to go explore out there.
Who’s still in?
PS, I’m planning something informal for next weekend as well. You’re welcome to join me for that as well.
I'm planning on coming, slightly on the fence, but likely in. I'll bring along my youngest, a 6-year old girl. Because the roads aren't technical I'll bring the lifted 1-ton to serve as the bigguy. I'm HAM licensed, have CB, and a handheld gmrs. I'll bring chainsaw too if desired. I don't have a winch but traction boards, tow strap, and shackles. We'll probably sleep in the truck topper / canopy / cap.
We will not be able to join until Friday evening, probably right at camp. We also love hiking.
I have extra radios for GMRS use if someone needs one.
I had a great question and thought I would add my response here for everybody...
We will be on Forest Service Roads. Lots of washboard and potholes, but no major off-road obstacles.
You'll need basic camping gear - tent, sleeping bag, warm layers of clothes, plans for 3 days of food. If you're using a ground tent, bring a suitable comfort pad. I'm anticipating gravel camp sites. Cabellas has a cool cot/tent that might be a good starter setup.
I have several short hikes and explorations planned. No obligation of course, but if you would like to participate, solid shoes for hiking.
I'm planning to bring some firewood. If you have an armload, great. If not, no worries. Don't go buy those expensive bundles from the gas station - not worth it.
Shower is up to you. Some will go without, some like to freshen up. I'm still working on my shower gear so I don't have any good advice yet.
Toilet. Walmart sells a little seat that snaps onto a 5 gallon bucket. Amazon sells little privacy tents and sanitary bags. There is also the option to wander off by yourself :)
I would prefer that people don't get gonzo drunk or silly stoned around the campfire, but some responsible use should be fine. Definitely no use while driving please.
I'm still working on Comms. I have a ham radio, but I don't have my license yet. I'm planning to purchase a GMRS soon - bring that if you have one.
Aaron, what are the actual dates? I am interested, but need confirmed dates.
Hi Aaron,
Couldn‘t find the registration but I am interested in joining this trip.
