We are trying to get a small group together this sat Oct 13th. We have never done any of the trails around liberty and would like to do it. Not looking to find a trail leader (maybe! LOL) just others to go so not alone. I know it's very short notice ,,,,,,but,,,, lets do it anyway. This is posted on the NWOL facebook page too.
Weather is suposed to be nice cool fall days, sunny and cooler.
Bring trail snacks and a lunch. Not a hurried trip, just a good fun day!
KEWL, Thanks Guy. Good to have you along.
OK all. Just found out yesterday these trails around Liberty all close for the year on monday. They will not be open untill next June. SOOOO, this is our last chance to do any of these reails untill next summer, so jump in your buggies and head over to the Liberty cafe on hwy 97 at 9 tomarrow morning for a fun day of trail running.
Thanks guys (and Guy) for the info. I'll take my time, not do anything stupid and hopefully we will have a fun safe trip. As with most anything, play it safe and don't take chances will keep you safe.
Deff gonna take the camera. I've been crammin for my ham test the 20th. Have it on Kindle reader. Had to bail on the tacoma class as I couldnt stay over till tues for test. grrrrr.
Here is a link to the official Forest Service OHV maps of the area https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/okawen/recreation/ohv/?cid=stelprdb5317888. The trail system (not sure on the FS Roads) is closed after 10/15 till June 15
Mark, I just can't make it this weekend, or I'd jump in for sure. We use Hole in the Rock at the Rally 'cause it's about "enough" of a challenge for many people without getting crazy. It's easy to find as well. Take a look at that site John Russell referenced for good info and even maps you can print. I'd recommend avoiding the "most difficult" trails without someone along who has done the specific trail in the past. They can get very intimidating and even dangerous.
Here's a list of trails in the area with some info on them http://www.nwjeepn.com/WAtrails.htm#liberty Probably a lot more, plus a multitude of Forest Service Roads. Think there may be a couple of roads closed still from earlier fires (i.e. Ruby Creek, Old Blewett Pass) but still plenty to explore. As usual life is in the way, had planned to be over there this weekend but no joy.
If the fall colors are anything like we saw 2 weeks ago up behind Fish Lake, you should be in for a treat. Really impressive.
I went with Josh Miner's group to Hole in the Rock during the Rally last summer. It was definitely a technical trail, I wouldn't go back without having a leader / spotter who is familiar with the trail. Not in my stock 4Runner, anyway.
Hey Mark!
I would be happy to go out to Liberty this coming Saturday the 13th if you wanted.
