I needed to fashion up an antenna mount, quickly. I have a more robust mount on order, but I wanted to get the antenna and Kenwood 710G radio mounted before my trip to Moab next week.
I went to Home Depot and found this.
It was going to require a little metal working skills, but I knew a guy that was a master at metals :-)
After a little cutting, bending and ball-peening in a vise, I managed to come up with this...
As a stop-gap solution, it will work great until my more robust mount comes in.
T.J - No, the mount is from here: http://www.lidomounts.com/hamradiomounts.html
I make all my own mounts but they don't look nice like yours. The great part of DIY is you can align the antenna with the ground plane. Off the shelf mounts don't do that much.
Did you mount the radio face and tablet holder with RAM mounts?
I ended up using a piece of aluminum barstock for mine. Been working great
Nicely McGivered 👍
I have my antenna in the same location and it works very well.
