Hi Everyone,
Pax (my pup) and I are leaving soon, ( around 4/7/22 )on an epic journey from the NW tip of the Olympic Penisula (Neah Bay/Cape Flattery) to Mexico. I have been researching and finding various overland routes along the way, ending with a 300 mile off-road trek from Organ Pipe Cactus in NM to the beaches of Puerta Peñasco.
As an overlanding beginner, I would love have others follow along, share tips and tricks and your favorite points of interest along the way.
Spent the last few months on modifications and gathering gear. I am all armored up (CBI skids/bumper/sliders) and added a Warn winch and some recovery gear.
Two questions for all of you:
What would be your ”don’t leave home without it item”?
What would be your “I wish I would of known before I left” advice?
Happy Trails!
Pamela & Pax

This looks like an amazing trip. Please, if you get service update us on your adventure.
Hi Pamela,
One other thing I thought about was Pax. I'm sure you already read up on this, but I thought I would mention it.
Oh my gosh! I am so jealous!!!! What a fantastic journey this will be!! So awesome!
For me, someone that has driven from Tucson to Rocky Point (Puerto Penasco), here are a few observations from that trip. (I am sure you have already done this, but not knowing, I'll throw it out there anyway...
Obviously you will need to obtain Mexican auto insurance. You can get that in New Mexico or Arizona. It runs about $150 for a 30 day policy (last I checked).
What city will you be crossing at? I recommend Lukeville, AZ. it drops you right into the little town of Sonoyta, MX. From there, you can get on the Sonoyta-Puerto Penasco hwy (Mexico 8). It's about 66 miles and a very lonely stretch of highway, so be sure to travel with a group of cars during the day, only. Never drive at night or alone.
Whatever town you do choose to cross at, there will be "Fixers" waiting for you. They will try to hail your car down to talk to you. Mostly to try to sell you a time share in PP, or give you directions for money.
Always stop at crosswalks. The Municipal Policia will be waiting for you if you don't stop and will ticket you.
There are a lot of gringos in Rocky Point, so once you are there, you are good to go.
Petty crime is also a little rampant, so if you are staying at a hotel, look for one where you can put your vehicle in a guarded or enclosed compound.
Obviously, any medications you will need. You may not necessarily be able to get them in MX, So plan accordingly.
That's all I can think of for now. I am super excited for you!
