Does anyone have a favorite way to carry a hot lunch while winter traveling? We have always liked to have a hot lunch, soup, chili, chowder etc when tripping in the winter that doesn't need to be heated on the trail. I have a one qt Stanly Alidden thermous and just ordered a 64 oz insulated bottle from Amazon. We also carry a two qt stanly bottle ofhot coffee. It's so nice to be able to pull over and have hot lunch ready to eat without having to cook when the weather isn't cooperating. Of course we carry typical survival items, ie: cold weather sleeping bags, shelter, food, fire kit, warm clothing etc.
What do any of you like to do when cold winter tripping?
In Alaska, I used to just put stuff on the dash defrost vents to warm it up.
Disclosure: I work at REI.
I'm a fan of stanley vacuum stuff like you (for heavy camping). I have thermos and coffee cups. I'd assume their food bowls are just as good. https://www.rei.com/s/food-storage?ir=collection%3Afood-storage&r=brand%3Astanley&origin=web
This one in particular seems a good fit for 2 people. https://www.stanley-pmi.com/shop/adventure-vacuum-crock
But I'm also a camp stove addict. A tranglia is a nice BoB addition. And a jetboil is a crazy fast way to make a hot meal either from mountain house prepackaged or your own freezer bag cooking (FBC) recipes. +1 for Whiskey @Aaron Kravik. Take a bit of Emergen-C and you have some pretty wicked cocktail makings. Whiskey+Tangerine=Whiskey Sour. Tequila+LemonLime=Margarita. My co-workers say similar things about the Nuun tablets as cocktail additives.
Whiskey.
