Things are getting a little cozy up on my Front Runner roof rack, and I really wanted to mount a road shower to the rack. Since space is limited, I will have to have it hang off the back end of the rack. The saddle clamps that come with the Road Shower are great if you just have cross bars mounted to your roof rails, but Jeeps do not nor do I have that option.
dSince I have a fab shop, I modeled up and machine a prototype set that will mount directly to the outer rail of the Front Runner rack and the T-slot in the Road Shower. I did a little shear load calculation and I *think* the interface will work, bumpy roads and all with the Road Shower filled with it's 4 gallon contents.
Here is the first phase of this project.
There will be 4 6061-T6 aluminum block dispersing the load off the back end of the rack.
There will be a 5/16-18 18-8 stainless carriage bolt in the channel on the Road Shower that will pass through the center hole on the aluminum block, captured by a flat washer and Nyloc nut.

The 4 aluminum blocks will slide over the outer rail on the Front Runner rack and the whole assembly will be secured to the rack with two, 8mm-1.25 stainless steel button head hex drive machine screws coming in from both the top and bottom, secure by an 8mm Nyloc nut on each fastener.

More this week when it gets mounted!!

Dan, it's nice to see a fellow machinest come up with ideas and be able to put into a completed product! I enjoy doing the same type of thing, only now that I'm retired, I dont have access to machines much. GRRRRR. Check out my next project here. https://www.northwestoverland.com/join-the-discussion/gear-binge-worthy-stuff/starboard-plastic-bushings
Very nice!!
I got the road shower mounted up on the rack this week. Ready to get dirty :-)
I am working on it. This feature is mostly for the Moab trip, next week.
