Hello, I just joined the board earlier this afternoon. My name is Lucas and I'm a master technician living in Seattle Washington.
I decided to join the board because I recently bought a new Silverado (first vehicle I've ever had with 4wd) and I'd love to take it out a few places. With that being said, I definitely did NOT buy this truck with the intention of making it an overland beast. In fact, the overlanding idea was a complete afterthought. I recently found out that I am expecting my second child and desperately needed a vehicle with more room. I'm a generally a car guy, but I've been wanting something I can tow with, get a pontoon or boat in the bed of, and hold several people (some of them in car seats) comfortably.
I recognize that a crew cab long bed truck is not going to be the most ideal for extreme offroading, but that is the least of my concern. I will be happy if I can join in on some of the more mild courses and trips. I am thrilled with my truck so far, it does some of everything just like I wanted. The way I see if, if there comes a time where I'd like to join in on a trip that my truck would not be suited for, my girlfriend and I can always choose to take her newer Wrangler Rubicon instead. I figure with the choice of two vehicles, we won't miss out on much.
Overland or not, in the near future I am planning to install a mild level/lift kit, and plus size the wheels and tires which will help quite a bit with ground clearance. I also plan to get a nice canopy at some point. I included a few pictures just for fun. If you are in the area, please feel free to contact me and let me know of any get togethers/hang outs! I am looking forward to learning.

Here is my truck helping a Tacoma yank a Mercedes out of some snow.
Like they say, go big or go home :-)
There's a few of us with full size, you crew cab long bed guys are a smaller group. That should be fun to park at the mall :-), but what a great road trip vehicle.
Now you just need to set it up so you can tow the Jeep, that way you'll have your choice of vehicle at all times.
Thanks guys!
I work on Hondas for a living, but I could probably help you with the misfire.
To make a very long story as short as possible, my girlfriend and I were driving around on trails near Greenwater WA just trying out the 4wd on my truck when we ran into those two vehicles. Soccer mom decided to take the "back way" to Crystal mountain and got her Mercedes stuck. She then walked back down the trail until she found the cabin where the guys in the Tacoma truck were staying and asked them for help. The problem was that the Mercedes easily outweighed the Tacoma, so they weren't able to pull her out. I just happened to pull up behind them and offered to help, but with how narrow the trail was, they were not able to get out of the way far enough for me to yank the Mercedes directly. That's how we ended up in the little daisy chain you see above. At one point the Tacoma lost traction and I was pulling both of them backwards. Unfortunately the Mercedes wasn't able to cut out of the snow rut she was stuck in with just a tow, so we ended up doing some digging before we got her free.
What was supposed to be a simple traipse through the snow ended up being a very long day.
Welcome aboard !
Is the taco stuck too or did it just need more oomph?
Lucas,
1) Welcome! We have similar NWOL bios (full size truck, kids, mellow approach)
2) Congratulations on your second child! I have a 6yo in kindergarten and a 3yo.
3) Good to see another full size truck here. Nice looking rig. So shiny and new. I have an '05 Silverado
2500HD, long bed, crew cab. Like you said, it's a dirt road station wagon for family adventures. It's also my daily driver.
4) Master Technician? What!? Can we be best friends, *please*? You could come to my house and have a sleep over. We'd watch movies, eat popcorn, have pillow fights, and diagnose my P0300 misfire (kidding, see pic).
Seriously, welcome!
PS The picture of you pulling a taco pulling mercenary-ades is farking hilarious.
