Hi there, My name is Kim and I have always been an outdoorsy chick due to being in the outdoors camping, fishing and hiking my whole life...
It really got real when I purchased my 2018 Jeep Rubicon!! Recently I was searching online at the different groups out there and then a friend of mine sent me the info about this group!! and here I am
Right now I’m getting back on my healthy side and currently my outdoor activity is hiking some trails and camping in the outdoors. But the freedom and adventure are calling my name and I’m really looking forward to meeting new people, traveling and seeing the outdoors in a 4Wheel point of view.
My vehicle is a 2018 Jeep Rubicon JK edition. By the way her name is Rubi... I have not done any Modifications on her... nor have I gotten her dirty on the country roads!! But life has definitely not been easy since I got her and haven’t had the opportunity nor the time to play with her in the beautiful outdoors!!
I’m planning on starting out with a ground tent, ice chest and other essentials downsized from my camping gear. I want to test out a few trips and see how it is; then possibly upgrading to a roof-top tent, and refrigerator later on. My main goal is to meet new people and be outdoors while living my best life!!!
Opinions and advice are greatly appreciated!
Welcome Kim.
Hi Kim!
And welcome to the community! Sounds like you are on a solid path to enjoying your new found passion of overland travel. A lot of folks sometime, overthink what it means to "get started", but having just the basics and expanding off of that is key.
I like to refer to adventure travel, overlanding or car camping as "backpacking on four wheels" You know what you need to survive on when you are backpacking. It's fairly modest, right? So keep that theory in mind and as you get out more and more, you can always add to your repertoire!
As far as vehicle mods, just make sure you have good recovery points on the vehicle that are easily accessible. Some sort of self-recovery device and a bug out kit in your vehicle. A bug out kit can always be utilized in a pinch as a compliment to your camping gear.
I'd encourage you to go to the Gear or Rigs Forum and start a conversation there about what your wants and needs are for this journey. That way you can start to catalog what items you want to pursue first.
Any way, welcome aboard and hope to see you at one of our events!
Dan
