Last year I came across venture4wd's YouTube channel. That was my introduction to Overlanding and I was hooked. The freedom and adventure really appeals to my nature. I won't be living out of my vehicle anytime soon like he does but weekend and week-long trips are my current focus. As I'm close to retirement age some month-long trips might be a real possibility later. I did a lot of backpacking when my son was in boy scouts and I miss it. My current outdoor activity is mainly day hikes mixed in with some state parks camping but it lack the adventure and camaraderie that Overlanding would have.
My vehicle is a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland edition. Modifications so far are a 4” long-arm lift, All Terrain tires (Jeep JK take-offs) and 1.5” wheel spacers. Next mod on the list is a transfer case upgrade.
I’m now determining what other vehicle mods I should do and what essential gear I should buy. Part of my fun is trying to do things as economically and simple as possible. I’m planning on starting with ground tents and ice coolers but could upgrade to a roof-top tent, refrigerator later depending on the impact that roughing it has on my overall fun and enjoyment. Opinions and advice are greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the welcome! What RTT is on your rig? It looks very slim. I'm considering one but thought I'd try one of those pop-up Gazelle tents first. My Jeep WJ, ironically an Overland edition.
