Hi All,
I am brand new to the site, and the hobby, and I am looking forward to meeting the community. I recently bought a truck and it is my goal to gain experience and access the outdoors more regularly. I live in Seattle (Magnolia) and will keep an eye on the events calendar for meet ups in my area. My family and I also plan to attend the Northwest Overland Rally and I would love to hear any tips you have for getting the most from that experience. I hope to see you soon!

Hey Alex, if you’re out and about tomorrow evening, we’d love to shake your hand. Swing by our Seattle meet-up and say hi!
Welcome Alex.
Welcome aboard, Alex! You are entering at the right time of the year. Lot's going on and about to happen. Like Guy said, get out to the Rally in June. You won't regret it!
Dan
Wow, Guy, thanks for all the advice! See you in June!

You've certainly purchased a truck with a great reputation for capabilities and reliability. The NW Overland Rally is an excellent place to start. I'm glad to see that your family is attending! Advice?
Read the ongoing thread about the Rally.
Make sure you have comfortable shelter for everyone. Sometimes it's been incredibly HOT at the Rally, and a sun-shade/awning was really nice to have, along with a good cooler or fridge with ice and cold water.
Take a look at the class schedules/training available at the Rally, and plan on attending those that interest you.
It's kind of fun and interesting to not only stroll around Vendor's Row looking for deals, but also just to walk the campsite and talk to folks about their camping gear & traveling rigs. You'll see all sorts of different rigs.
I'd recommend doing the obstacle course in your new truck. GREAT way to learn how to use low-range, and see what the truck can do. It will probably amaze you and give you good confidence. Here's a photo of my friend Rich Cronin taking his Jeep through the course:
As you can see, the course is set-up adjacent to the camping area. Lots of instruction and guidance available too.
There are half-day, and full day trips avail from the Rally. I'd recommend starting with one of the trips up Sugarloaf, a nearby mountain with a scenic fire-lookout tower atop it. The route is beautiful, and easily accomplished in a stock 4-wheel drive vehicle.
In the evening, join everyone at the campfire! Haul your camp chairs over there and enjoy!
Regards, Guy
Howdy Alex & family. Welcome!
