Stumbled across this piece of camp kitchen awesomness the other day while watching some random YouTube video. My trailer came with a BBQ grill that attaches to the outside but it is sorta cheap and lame. In the back of my head, I had plans of someday replacing the grill with some fancy outdoor kitchen gizmo. Well I think I found it. I picked up the 22" Blackstone griddle from Walmart for about $150. I can't find this model anywhere on the Blackstone website but it's set up for tailgating and appears to be a Walmart exclusive style. It is straight out of any Japanese steakhouse or 50's style diner. The griddle is cold rolled steel and very heavy but it all packs up and fits in my trailer exactly where the old grill fit. I even picked up an extension that will allow me to tap into the quick release propane hook up on the trailer.
The grill sets on the fold-able legs and each leg is adjustable or it can be used on a table or picnic bench. It does get very hot and will melt plastic within 2-3" of the griddle sides so it will not be attached to the side of my trailer. After properly seasoning the griddle, I set about making Philly cheese steak sammiches.
This thing is bad ass and very easy to cook on. All the noises of a Japanese Steakhouse but without the funny hats and flaming onion volcano. So far, over the last 4 days, I've cooked 5 meals on it. It's safe to say we won't be going to Happy Teriyaki as much. Fried rice is easy to make now. The Blackstone Griddle will definitely give the Skottle a run for it's money although it's not really as ideal for Overlanding if space is a premium. Blackstone does offer a smaller 17" version. You can cook the entire breakfast for the family on it and only have the spatulas to wash.
