Liberty Washington that is. Just off Hwy 97, near Blewett Pass. Liberty is a place where the 4x4 community and the Wenatchee National Forest personnel worked together to provide some outstanding "Jeep Trails" which are great for a day trip, or a longer stay. The little town of Liberty has no services, and is a semi-ghost town. Some folks live there, but the town is smaller than in bygone mining days. There is some interesting history to the place.
The real attraction for most though, is the network of "Jeep Trails" on each side of the highway. Some are pretty mild, others are very difficult. Typically there is at least one trip to Liberty avail while attending the Northwest Overland Rally.
A favorite of mine is "Hole in the Rock" aptly named for a large rock near the start of the trail, with a large hole in it... Imagine that!
This trail is best done in low range, with the tires aired down a bit, and some careful driving. There's a pinch-point between two trees that prohibits large vehicles, though a current Toyota Tacoma can squeeze through.
Jesse - that is a nice option. Camping at Haney Meadows is very pleasant, with an opportunity to see elk and mule deer. Bring the bug spray! :)
Super cool area even when just sticking to forest roads, lots of great views and campsites. Can’t wait till this opens up, I want to try to connect it to Haney Meadows and Wenatchee this year. We were up Memorial Day last year and the top was still closed.
That pic is so coo! Hoping to sign up for this trip this year.
we just signed up for the Saturday trip to Hole in the Rock during the NWOR. 😄 Super excited.

Meg and I have been looking at that area to get out and do an overnighter! Nice trail running in, find a camp spot and let the dogs run. Pull the tw200 out of the truck and wheel around on that. Sleep, then trails out! Glad to know we had the right idea!
I think you'll enjoy!
We are planning on signing up in the next few days for the Hole in the Rock outting during NWOR this year. It looks great!
Very Cool.
Sweet pic, Jeff!
Love Hole in the Rock. I originally saw a Facebook post and said "I need a photo of my jeep on that Rock".
Guy, if we went now with mud n snow, would be like last wknd! lol.. I just got most of the mud off the XJ.
Maybe we can coordinate a liberty run and the Whisky Dick soon after the rally.
Oh, another month or so for the snow to be gone. Even then, some of the trails don't officially open for quite a while. June 15 maybe? I forget the date.
OK<<<<<<<<<< what are we waiting for?
Josh Miner, critiquing my driving skills! :)
Nice video Dan. The Liberty trails are much more difficult & challenging than our trips through Swakane. :)
Cannot wait for Summer to get out on those trails!
