Thanks sounds like she should be able to get some time be hind the wheel then also. I think we are planning on relaxing at the lakes and enjoy some nice weather hopefully. Plus a relaxing drive from the sounds of it.
Section 1 is very tame. As Ole mentioned, not a lot for points of interest. Some cool rock formations down by Big Lava Bed. Definitely stop at the Guler Ice Caves by Trout Lake.
Ole thanks that's ndperfect what i was hoping to hear. This will be my GF first true overland adventure and starting easy will help get her into the idea going more.
I did sections one and two last summer, section one seemed easier, but also less interesting. Much of it was "in the woods," if you do find a spot with a nice view I recommend stopping and enjoying it. There won't be many of those places. Nothing particularly challenging in section one, I drove it all in rear wheel drive without airing down.
The free campground up by Council lake (46.2635, -121.6318) was nice, so was the pay campground up by Takhlakh Lake (46.2808, -121.5986). I didn't see many nice places to camp along the route so I ended up staying at a forest service campground. Recommend bringing all the water you will want, or equipment to filter lake water.
