We have decided to put together a short notice day trip into the whiskey dick area east of Ellensburg on May 12. We will meet at the fruit stand at exit 115, Kittitas exit off I-90 at 9AM. Bring any vehicle you want to ride or drive. Quads, bikes etc will all be welcome. This is a green dot road system, so each vehicle needs to be legal on green dot roads and have a Discovery pass on board.
Expect many fantastic views of the Columbia basin as well as the surrounding areas. There will be a few off camber spots. Several moderate climbs where 4x4 will be required, I deffinatly would recomend airing down and disconnecting sway bars if possable, as there are several opportuneties to flex out the suspension! The usual tow points, straps shovel jack etc goes without saying.
Bring lots of drinking water and snacks as well as lunch for when we make nooner stop.
Vehicle requirments are fairly simple, 4x4, moderate ground clearence will get you through with ease.
Be sure to bring your camera and a good pair on binoculars will have lots of use that day.
Remember, A stranger is just a best friend you havent met yet!
Those arent pin stripes, they are trail trophies! You should see my Jeep. Lol
Just a day trip. But anyone can camp, I just cant do it. Birthday party!
Are you camping?
I dipped my wheels into area on Sunday afternoon. Entered from the southeastern most gate. Here is a picture of the map posted at the entrance. Blue are open green dot trails. Grey highlighted road are also open. Drove to Lone Star Spring and then turned around. I did not wanted to get to far into the area with just one vehicle and rain starting to come down. Collected some pin strips that will hopefully polish out. I can't make it next weekend, but enjoy the trip.
Wish I could sounds fun
