Dan had a great idea on starting a post on trail ride support equipment for the Rally ....... I am registered for Hole in the Rock on the 29th and Ruby Creek on the 30th. I will have a winch, tow straps (and blocks), Maxx Traxx, Hi-Lift jack, V-Air compressor to re-inflate tires, and will carry 10-gallons of extra fuel (gasoline), and a CB Radio ...... in case anyone needs support on these adventures. Looking very much forward to this event and meeting more of you all!......and hope to squeeze in some Ham Radio education while I'm there! Thanks.

If a quarter of the stuff listed in this thread gets used at the rally I'd be extremely surprised.
Kevin, great looking Jeep! Normally Douglas Creek is a very pleasant drive, scenic, and just challenging enough to be fun! Normally... :) I too am really looking forward to the rally!
Just was able to solidify plans for this. I think I grabbed the last spot in the Douglas Creek run on the 30th. I have a 10k winch, snatch block, tree saver and snatch strap, soft and standard d rings, etc etc etc. Quite a bit of off road experience but not super familiar with the area. If anyone has any "range anxiety" I can also carry 10 extra gallons of fuel. Really looking forward to the weekend.
Cory & Julie - your Jeep looks GREAT. I think you'll enjoy the rally and that "Hole in the Rock" trail run. It's fun! I'm a little envious, as you will be spending time with my oldest son on our favorite little trail at Liberty and I won't be able to go with him. ENJOY!
Plus all the stuff you're going to impulse buy at the rally! :D
Great idea! We are registered for the Hole in the Rock trail on Saturday the 30th. We don’t have any knowledge about these trails but have a winch, an air compressor, hi lift jack, tow strap and who knows what else by then. 😄
We are looking forward to this Trail!
Cory and Julie
Hopefully farther - and out the correct way - instead of into the winch, Max Trax & tire chain demonstration pit! :)
Guy, how far into Douglas creek are you taking group? You going in to where we did the 2 hour winch demonstration? HEHE
My little Jeep has a 10k winch, tow points, a good recovery strap, shackles, shovel, first aid kit, under hood air compressor, tool kit, CB, etc. Good, useful stuff. Being prepared ahead of time helps.
Sadly, we haven't included the White Rim Road (Canyonlands National Park) as one of our NW Overland Rally trail runs this year... ;) But that's "Stubs" the little white Jeep. He's going to be on two runs to Douglas Creek this rally. I plan to leave the trailer in camp at the Rally though.
Good point, if anything CAN happen with a group of people, it probably WILL happen. Having others with knowledge or maps of the area along is always a plus. Some mishap or break down (hopefully minor) can always happen that splits the group.
I'm leading the 2 Sugarloaf runs, my wife, Judy will be tail-gunning. Depending how much time the AM run takes, I may have to bug out to meet the PM run. She'll be able to lead from there. Don't want to hurry peoples time, it's pretty cool up top - look kids, Big Ben, Parliament :-)
It's great that so many of the folks doing the trail runs are experienced, and have well equipped vehicles! There are often a lot of people on the trail runs who are pretty new to all this. Having folks like Mark and Vicki, or "Benny" Benson along helps tremendously. Normally we don't need anything beyond an air compressor and maybe a recovery strap, but it sure is nice to have the gear available.
Just throwing this out there for any tail gunner. Have the map or trail GPX'd on your device as well. Twice now the trips I was tail gunning for took way longer than expected and half the group decided to bag out of the run early. As the tail gunner, I agreed to lead everybody that wanted to go in back down to the rally. If I didn't have the GPX saved, we would have been out longer than the original run.
We have offered to run drag, or last in line on any of the half day runs if we can be of help. We have a winch, many straps and shackles as well as I carry two snatch blocks. My Jeep always has a shovel, axe, machete , a hilift jack as well as many other trail helps. We carry extra fluids and tools etc. We carry water to drink, a small first aid kit and basic survival gear. I have found that a FULL SIZE SPARE is an essential piece of gear. One piece of advice I will give is to make sure you have SOLID anchor points on your vehicle in case you need tugged or for when you need to tug others. When you do much off roading you will find times when both will be needed, not if, but WHEN tugs are needed! An air compressor is so nice to have when airing tires is called for. Just a small side note on airing down, Go to most any auto parts store and get a new rubber valve stem with a valve cap that has a stem remover on it as well as a small inexpensive tire pressure gage with a dial face. these are so fast and easy to use to air down, BUT make sure you ger a few replacement valve stems because once in a while, valve stems can grow wings and slip out of your fingers and have a habbit of dissapearing off into the wild blue yonder, never to be seen again!LOL
