This is one of many gems we'll be pulling over from the old forum.
Patrick Tingly: So yesterday while doing some yard work for my mom she wanted me to pull a couple of big bushes out with my truck. Hooked up the winch and started pulling, SNAP. The bad thing, the winch line broke.
The good thing, it happened in the backyard and not out on the trail when I really needed it. Also I got to see first hand what the line will do when it breaks, it just basically released tension and fell into a pile at either end. I checked it for cuts, didn’t see anything but doesn’t mean there wasn’t one there. So now I get to learn how to splice synthetic rope.
This is a pretty decent video on how to do it…. and looks easy enough to do on the trail pretty quickly if need be…. By far much easier than splicing cable….
